Pedigree Profile: Tapwrit

When first look at Tapwrit's (Tapit) pedigree it may look a little suspect for a mile and a half, especially under his first two dams. However, when you look at the sires that are in his pedigree, you can see why that the Belmont Stakes distance was no problem for him.

Tapwrit is out of the graded stakes winning mare Appealing Zophie (Successful Appeal) who won the Spinaway as a 2yo and the Silverbulletday as a 3yo. She sadly was born the same year as some great fillies such as Octave, Lady Joanne and of course both Rags to Riches as well as Zenyatta. She did not race past the age of 3. Tapwrit is her best foal to date.

Her dam Zophie (Hawkster) ran primarly in allowance and claiming races. Her sire Hawkster (Silver Hawk), is also the broodmare sire to 2005 3yo Champion Afleet Alex (Northern Afleet). Appealing Zophie is her best foal as well.

Underneath Tapwrit's 3rd dam Sodeo Sodeo (Seattle Slew), there is stakes winner Yankee Mon (Maria's Mon) who while a NYB stakes winner did win two races at Belmont with one of them over a mile and the other at a mile.

The 4th dam is where things get interesting for Tapwrit. Melody Tree (High Tribute) is the dam of Croeso (Super Concorde) who won the Florida Derby over Copelan (Tri Jet) who would become the broodmare sire of Rockport Harbor (Unbridled's Song) who is the sire of BC Juvenile Fillies winner Ria Antonia. She is also the dam to sprint stakes winner Cardell (Super Concorde).

Also hailing from this family is G1 winner Slewpy (Seattle Slew) who defeated Deputy Minister (Vice Regent) in the Meadowlands Cup.
