Pedigree Profile: Dust and Diamonds

For a brief time, Dust and Diamonds (Vindication) was one of the top filly and mare sprinters in the country for the year of 2012. While she had spent most of her career as an Allowance horse, she did pick up wins in the Dashing Beauty (pictured on the right) and Gallant Bloom before finishing second to Groupie Doll in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint and then ending her career with a win in the Sugar Swirl.

As a broodmare, she hasn't had the success yet as she did as a racer. According to Pedigree Query, she has one named foal, Legallini (Hard Spun) who is 1 for 7 in her career.

Dust and Diamonds is out of the mare Majestically (Gone West) who was off the board in both of her stakes starts of her career. As a broodmare, she is the dam to not only Diamonds, but to stakes placed Sandra (Bluegrass Cat).

Her dam Darling Dame (Lyphard) is a stakes winner on the California Fair circuit. She is the dam to stakes winner Majestic Vintage (Cuvee) and stakes placed Musical Chairs (Woodman).

Things get really interesting for Dust and Diamonds underneath her 4th dam Olmec (Pago Pago (AUS)). Not only is she a stakes winner, but she is the dam to G3 winner Soldier Boy (Tumiga), G3 placed Speed Broker (Queen City Lad), and G2 winner Navajo Princess (Drone). The latter is the dam to European Horse of the Year Dancing Brave (Lyphard) and French champion Jolypha (Lyphard) who finished third behind A.P. Indy (Seattle Slew) in the 1992 Breeders' Cup Classic (her lone start on dirt) and 2nd behind Flawlessly (Affirmed) the year afterwards. Jolypha also defeated the great Urban Sea (Miswaki) in 1992. Diamond's third dam Darling Lady (Alleged) was 0 for 2 in her career.
